The Office of Export Controls (OEC) is a resource provided to help Duke University researchers and staff remain compliant with U.S. laws controlling the export (or disclosure) of both goods and technology and with sanctions upon certain foreign countries.

Whether you are shipping research materials to another country, have questions about foreign visitors and sensitive information, or need help navigating prohibited activities for international projects, our office is here to guide and assist. OEC also provides help with the following:

  • Applications for export licenses and import permits
  • Travel to sanctioned countries
  • Anti-bribery compliance
  • Customs clearance formalities
  • Screening for debarred parties

Note: It is the policy of Duke University to fully abide by all federal and state laws and regulations that pertain to export controls, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions and embargoes regulations.
